Energy costs are out of control, and families across Illinois are being forced to make impossible choices just to keep the lights on. But these rising costs are no accident. They are the result of policy decisions that shut down dependable energy sources before practical alternatives were ready.
I am working hard to fix this broken system with a package of bills that focus on affordable, reliable energy and put families first.
Here is what I have introduced:
· SB 1234: Create a task force to honestly review how energy policies affect prices.
· SB 1235: Pause the shutdown of coal and gas plants and allow new peaker plants for backup power.
· SB 1236: Fix the Illinois EPA permitting process so important energy projects can move forward.
Unfortunately, these bills were not even given a committee hearing during the most recent legislative session. And now Illinoisans are seeing their energy bills skyrocket and families are struggling to pay their utility bills.
Enough is enough. Illinois families need relief. Which is why I am calling on Governor Pritzker to take action and make these bills a priority. Illinois families deserve an energy system that is affordable, reliable, and sustainable.
